My First Heartthrob

Davy Jones. Davy Jones. Davy Jones. You, of the cute twinkling eyes.

I just watched your Biography a month or so ago, as well as a show about the creation of The Monkees. I fell in love with you all over again after watching those shows.

I'm so sorry you are no longer with us. I will miss you.

A Wee, Sweet Baby Girl

The Husband and I visited a local hospital today to introduce ourselves to a wee, sweet baby girl who was born yesterday. She's a precious little lady.

Her parents are quite proud of her and rightfully so.

Welcome to the world, little Miss Tegan. We love you already!

Modern Arithmetic Through Discovery

© 1963

The Husband and I went to an estate sale in a small town southwest of Tulsa this afternoon. I purchased three vintage schoolbooks, one of which is Modern Arithmetic Through Discovery. I vividly remember this textbook from from my elementary school days.

As I was scanning through the book this evening, I said to The Husband "I'm not sure I can work these problems."

His response? "Give me one of the problems!"

I found a problem and let him read it.

"Oh, this is the beginning of new math!" Yeah? And what does that mean, dear?

It means, you have to work through each section of the book from the beginning so you know how to solve the problems!

I wonder if you taught children from vintage textbooks like these, if they could pass current competency tests in math, english, science, etc?

Would you recognize your elementary school textbooks if you saw them today?

Linky Followers

I wrote this post last month advising I was planning to eliminate "Google Friend Connect" from my blog.

I've been reading posts from other bloggers who are now using "Linky Followers," so I decided to implement this tool on the clipboard.'s one the right side of the screen. I'd be very happy if you would take the time to follow me using this new tool.

I'm planning to delete "Google Friend Connect" on February 29th.

I Kicked Myself In The Rear Today

I was up and out of bed early this morning.

I went for breakfast at Old School Bagel Cafe in Brookside. I seriously love that place.

I was one of the first in line at the opening of an estate sale where everything was 50% off. I picked up a few items for my booths.

I went to visit my mom and ran an errand for her.

I visited both of my booths today. I removed old merchandise (in my first booth for more than 6 months), added new merchandise, and "fluffed" both booths to show off the items to the best advantage. I was pleased with the sales at both locations for the past week. Yippee!

I plotted my strategy for Friday morning estate sales. The first one opens at 8:00 am, so I'll be up and around again early in the morning. I hope I find lots of treasures!

I need to start photographing my treasures again and writing blog posts and Facebook posts for the cupboard. Perhaps this weekend.

What's on your schedule for Friday?

Evidently, I've Misplaced My Mojo

I haven't been inspired to post here for the past week.

In fact, I haven't been inspired to do much of anything lately.

I did go to one estate sale yesterday and purchased a few things for my booths, but I haven't even bothered to check on them this week.

I feel tired and blah.

I must need a vacation. Or, a kick in the rear.

Maybe tomorrow I'll be motivated.

When you feel this way, what do you do to get yourself going again?

Ladies of the Night

I joined a book club more than a year ago and have really enjoyed getting to visit with new people and to read and discuss books I would not normally select for myself.

Book club met at my house last night and a good time was had by all. Everyone brought a dish to share and the drink of their choice. Last night's spread of food was varied and delicious.

We had planned to host local author, P.C. Cast, for the evening, but she was unable to make it at the last minute. We hope to reschedule with her soon to discuss her wildly popular House of Night series.

One of the newer members of the club asked if we had a name. The club has been in existence for years and evidently had a name at one time, but it's use lapsed long ago. Suggestions were made and a unanimous vote resulted in the adoption of a new name, "Ladies of the Night."

We selected A Visit From The Goon Squad as our next book. Have you read it?

Are you a member of a book club?

Garage Sale

The Sister had a garage sale last Saturday. She advertised in the newspaper, "Sale, 8am-1pm, yada yada yada."

I took a few things over to sell. I arrived at the house at 7:10am with:
  1. breakfast from McDonald's
  2. the last of my items for sale
There was a woman already parked in front of the driveway. When I raised the garage door, she got out of her car to come in. The Sister said, "We're not open yet" and the woman reluctantly went away.

The Sister, Brother-in-Law and I were eating breakfast at 7:30am, when the door bell rang. She and I laughed and told him to go to the door.

He did and was greeted by a guy who asked, "You having a garage sale?"

"Yeah, at 8:00 am!" Slam the door...

When we finally opened, there were a number of people who rapidly exited their vehicles.

After shopping the entire sale, one man apologized to the B-i-L for the guy that rang the doorbell early: "Let me apologize for all of us who don't act like that."

What a nice thing to do!

The Sister and B-i-L did really well selling their stuff.

I did "so so." But that was okay. I got rid of some stuff that had not sold in my booth.

Plus, The Sister and B-i-L let me be in charge of the money. And, if you know me, you know how much I like to be in charge!

So, do you have garage sales to get rid of your surplus things?

Do you shop garage sales?

Where's George?

Do you know where George is?

George (as in Washington) is on the $1 bill.

Have you ever thought about the $1 bills you receive and spend? Where they have been and where they go after you spend them?

Neither have I.

But, someone was curious. Hence, the creation of "Where's George."

Curious people mark the $1's they receive with a special "Where's George" stamp and enter the bill serial number on-line.

I'm a curious person.

I bought a stamp.

I'm stamping all my $1 bills commencing today. I can't wait to see where they go!

Final January NaBloPoMo Status Report

In this post on January 1st, I committed to posting on the clipboard every day in January for BlogHer's National Blog Posting Month.

I just reviewed the clipboard and I only posted here 22 days. However, I did post over on Cindy's Cupboard 9 times. Unfortunately, those 9 posts do not line up exactly with the 9 days I did not post on the clipboard.

I had no posts in either place on the 17th, 18th, 19th and 22nd. (Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Sunday)

Funny, I would have thought non-posting days would have all been on the weekends, but that just wasn't true.

Overall, I am happy with my results. I plan to continue the effort to post every day. How about you? If you took the NaBloPoMo challenge, how did you do? I know my bloggy friend Jill of all Trades conquered it! Congrats to her

Who Has More Fun When Asleep?

The other night The Husband and I went to bed at a decent time. I elected to read for a while and The Husband elected to go directly to sleep.

After 15 minutes or so, The Husband starting mumbling. Then he started laughing. More mumbles, louder this time and very excited. And, laughter. Oh, the laughter! It was so funny, I laid in bed next to him and laughed out loud.

Of course, he didn't remember his dream in the morning.

He rarely remembers dreams.

On the other hand, I have horrible, scary dreams. Search this blog using the keywords "dreams" and you'll see for yourself. (I haven't even written about my recent car jacking dream!)

I guess it is obvious that The Husband sleeps the sleep of the innocent or something. What does that say about me?
Fiddle dee dee. I'll worry about that tomorrow!
