Today has been an extra good day.
The Husband and I:
* Went out for breakfast.
* Went for manicures & pedicures at the mall. I'll never understand why he didn't have his toenails & fingernails painted purple, with multi colored glitter on top, like I did. He just NEVER wants to match! What's up with that? :-)
* Bought new bed pillows.
* Stopped in for a short visit with friends at their home. Their adorable granddaughter was there. She proudly proclaimed, "I pooped and peed and have on panties and I'm dry!" Our response? "Yippee! Such an accomplishment!" Of course, we all aspire to that when we are very young and when we are aging rapidly. :-)
* Stopped in at a favorite local restaurant for a late bite of lunch and had a lovely visit with friends who were there.
* Had a 2 hour nap.
* Went out to another favorite restaurant for a light dinner and laughs with the staff.
It's important to appreciate the good days. I hope your day was also good!

New Job (Yes, another one!)
January 2, 2014
I started a new job.
It is with the same company
where I began a temporary position,
on September 23, 2013.
It's a good company.
My preference,
at this age,
would be
to win the lottery,
take the lump sum,
and ride off into the sunset.
Unfortunately,
The Husband says that is not going to happen.
What does HE know?

Things to Do in 2012
I'm not a New Year's resolution person. Never have been, never will be. But...in 2012, I am going to strive for some improvements.
1. I started the 2011 Goodreads Reading challenge in June, 2011. I said I would read 50 books before year-end and I did not meet my goal. 2012 will be different. I can do it. I love to read, so there is nothing stopping me!
2. I'm going to eat more fruit. I like bananas, apples, oranges, grapes, and other things, we just don't buy them on a regular basis. 2012 will be the year of fruit for me.
3. I plan to double the revenues for my business, Cindy's Cupboard. I've kept detailed records on what has sold in the last 6 months and I will focus my efforts on finding more of the same inventory, all while researching current trends in collectibles and vintage items.
4. I will sign on with multiple contract agencies, seeking a long-term, interesting assignment that will utilize my organization skills.
Numbers 1 and 2 should be easy enough to accomplish.
Number 3 will be a lot harder than it sounds. Anyone who has worked as a buyer in a retail environment knows that to be true.
Number 4 will also be a challenge with the current job market. However, I'm confident someone out there will need me to help them get organized!
How about you? Have you thought about some things you would like to accomplish in 2012?

I'm Happy
I go out to breakfast once or twice a week, prior to running errands or whatever else is on my schedule for the day. This morning I went to Old School Bagel, which is one of my favorite places on Brookside.
Here's the conversation at the counter, when I stepped up to order:
Me: "Good morning."
Employee: "Good morning, how are you?"
Me: "I'm happy, thanks!"
Employee (with a strange look): "You're happy?"
Me: "Yes, I'm happy!"
Employee: "Good for you!"
We then discussed how, if you set your mind to it, it's easy to be positive and happy every day because life is too short and most irritations really aren't worth the effort.
So, how about you? Are you happy?

New Year's Resolutions?
I don't make New Year's Resolutions, do you?
Of course, I want to lose weight. Who doesn't?
And of course, I shouldn't drink so much or eat so much or eat such unhealthy food.
The reality is, however, if you make New Year's Resolutions on these issues, chances are you fail within the first couple of weeks in January. Then you are set up to be disappointed in yourself and eat more and drink more and gain more weight.
Can you say mouse wheel?
Mmmm...maybe I would lose some weight if I got on that mouse wheel?
No, no...back to my original train of thought!
Last New Year's Eve I said to myself, "I want to meet new and interesting people."
It wasn't a resolution. It was a wish.
My wish was fulfilled by:
1) networking and being invited to join a book club
2) attending Tulsa Blogger Meet-ups, organized by Tasha Does Tulsa
It's funny. At the book club, I think I'm the youngest person. At the blogger meet-ups, I'm usually among the oldest attendees.
Perhaps one of my 2011 wishes should be to find yet another group of interesting people who are my age?
What's on your wish list for 2011? Whatever it is, I hope you obtain it in the coming months.
Happy New Year!

Oh, My Aching Back! (and leg)
In the past, I have had problems with my lower back and, after a few adjustments from a chiropractor, have gone on my merry way.
I'm in need of a few adjustments again. This is obvious if you see me trying to get up out of a chair and walk. Although, once I'm up and moving around you can't tell I'm having any trouble.
But, I decided to give in today. The pain is not getting any better. In fact, it is worse.
I have a chiropractor appointment this afternoon. Wish me a good adjustment!
P.S. I'll be working on blog posts this week covering our last trip and this past weekend, which consisted of lots of family fun. Plus, I hope to catch up on my blog reading and commenting.

Yesterday - A Perfect Wednesday
By 9:00am, I was showered, in clean clothes, and had make-up and jewelry on.
Not that I'm not showered and dressed early in the day. It's just that I had MAKE-UP and JEWELRY on by 9:00 am.
I was at Tulsa's Old School Bagel Cafe early for breakfast. I left there and went to an estate sale, Red Crown Credit Union, Gardner's Book Store, Sam's Club and my Mom's house.
It was a full day.
After a couple of busy hours at the house, The Husband came home from work. He and I had dinner at Sonoma, one of our favorite places.
I cannot think of anything that was wrong with today. I hope you feel the same about your life.

I spent Thursday in bed.
A stomach bug during the holidays is always fun.

It's Been A Great Week For Me!
I spent two days in OKC (Monday & Tuesday) with niece Amy and her sweet boys -- Adam and Nathan.
I attended two Pioneer Woman cookbook signings - one where I did not get a book and one where I did!
I researched recipes on line and did menu planning and grocery shopping.
Did some laundry...
Had my nails done...
Bought a new pair of shoes (whoo hoo!)
Cocktails with my husband and many friends at a favorite restaurant on Friday night.
Life is good. And, trust me, I absolutely know that...
Please, tell me what is good in your life...

I Had A Great Day
Last week was my first "official" week of retirement. However, I was not in charge of my schedule. My family had me booked every day. :-)
Yesterday was the first day I was "in charge" of my time. It was fantastic. I didn't get out of bed until 9:00 am. But once I did, I was on the move all day long. Until nap time, of course! (tee hee)
I ran errands, saw my Mom twice and had a nice, easy dinner with The Husband.
The day was perfect!
How was your day?

What I Did Saturday
- Slept late.
- Went to the early movie with my sister and her girls to see guinea pigs save the world! G Force
- Napped.
- Went to dinner at McGill's on 21st.
Pretty much a perfect Saturday for me.
Oh wait, laundry is not on the list. Therefore, not a perfect Saturday! :-)
What did you do?

What Can I Say?
Sorry, I've not posted every day recently.
There are some "things" going on in my life now that are distracting me.
I will post about those "things" at the appropriate time.
Promise!

Please, Make It Stop
In the early 1970's, The Husband "ran away from home." Which is how his Mother, until the day she died, jokingly referred to it. Of course, he was in his early 20's and "it was the 70's, for gawd's sake!"
He lived in Connecticut a number of years and made quite a few good friends. Friends who he maintains contact with to this day.
I know her husband, children, family and friends will miss her very much.
The past 11 months have been difficult for The Husband in terms of loss. His mother, his cousin-in-law, his sister and, now, a very dear friend.
Death comes in cycles, I know. But, please, can this cycle stop for us now...for just a while?
He lived in Connecticut a number of years and made quite a few good friends. Friends who he maintains contact with to this day.
Unfortunately, this week The Husband received an e-mail from one of these friends, advising that his wife had unexpectedly passed away. The Husband, of course, got on the phone with him that day. They had a very good, but very sad, conversation.
I have only met this couple in person two or three times since The Husband and I married. Each time these folks welcomed us into their beautiful home and they reminisced about funny times with The Husband and their extended circle of friends.

The wife was so gracious and elegant. She made everything seem effortless and nothing was a problem or too much trouble for her guests.
I know her husband, children, family and friends will miss her very much.

Happy July 1st...
Can you believe 2009 is half over? I can not!!!
Before you know it, we will be saying good-bye to summer and the heat, (oh my goodness, the heat!) and welcoming beautiful fall days, as well as chilly winter days.
Take time to savor the remaining days of summer 2009...they will be gone before we know it!

Six Word Memoirs
I read an article in the recent AARP magazine titled "Six-Word Memoirs, Really Short Stories.
You have probably already heard of these stories, but I had not. It was fascinating.
The original objective was to tell the story of your life in six words and tens of thousands of people responded. A book was published, Not Quite What I Was Planning: Six-Word Memoirs by Writers Famous & Obscure (Harper, 2008).
There is also a website: Six Word Memoirs
Of course, I had to give it a try for myself.
My life:
Mistakes Made. Lessons Learned. Happy Now.

Happier Than I Have Ever Been.
Loves Husband. Loves Family. Loves Self.
What I am:
Good Wife, Daughter, Sister, Aunt, Friend.
Creature of Habit. Obsessive Compulsive. Organizer.
Avid Reader. Hard Worker. Low Maintenance.
I had such fun doing this little exercise in self-examination. I even got out of bed that night to scribble more thoughts.
I challenge you to give it a try and let me know your results!
