Unhealthy Love of Laundry

What can I say?

Everyone who knows me well, knows it to be true. I love taking dirty clothes and making them clean. I can't help myself. And, don't let an item have a spot on it or be dingy. At that point, the Spray-n-Wash and Biz come out with a vengence.

As readers of this blog know, I've been commuting to Houston for a while and have not been working as a virtual employee. One of the advantages of working at home (unspoken, of course) is being able to keep current on your laundry. Before I started traveling every week, I never had laundry piled up. I washed everything in the hamper on Monday. On Thursday or Friday, I'd again wash everything in the hamper so at the beginning of the weekend all of our clothes were clean. I was able to do this by taking breaks between responding to e-mails and in between conference calls.

Since I now return home on Thursday evenings, I start laundry Friday morning and frequently am not focused enough to finish it until Sunday afternoon when I have to pack for the next week. This change in my schedule caused an unfortunate circumstance for The Husband recently.

Because it is just the two of us and we own plenty of towels, I made the decision to skip laundering the dirty towels one weekend.

I forgot I did his briefs at the same time.

When I returned home the second week, we went out to run errands on Saturday morning.

As we left the house, he said "I guess we need to go to Wal-mart."

I said, "What for?"

He said, "I only have one more pair of briefs. If you don't do the towels, I'll have to wear boxers."

I said, "MR. MAN (see Stephen King's book, Misery), you know how to do laundry!"

He said, "I wouldn't dare!"

Perhaps I "own" the laundry process too strongly in our home. I need to work on letting go!

Friday Night at Driller's Stadium

The Husband asked me if I wanted to go out to dinner on Friday night. Of course, I said yes. We had hot dogs, peanuts and beers. Whoo hoo!
It was a beautiful night.
OH. MY. GAWD. Our seats were behind two guys we have known for years through work. Randy and Craig.  They are a bit crazy.
I miss seeing these guys every day.

They used to be part of a "comedy trio", but unfortunately the third person, Doug, passed away earlier this year. As Craig said tonight, "I keep expecting him to pop up somewhere and say 'Surprise!'." Unfortunately, that will not happen.

The Husband and I were so pleased to see these guys (and their long-suffering women) tonight. While I absolutely LOVE being a home based employee, folks like this make me miss being in an office everyday.

Wardrobe Maintenance

Being a home based employee is great.  I wear jeans every day, and depending on the season, short or long sleeve tops (or sweatshirts).  I have a few "office outfits" to wear when I'm asked to travel for corporate meetings. Those clothes, plus other casual pieces, have served me when I need to dress for an event at home.  However, I was looking at my clothes this week and decided I need a big infusion of new stuff.

I used to be quite the clothes horse.  I shopped every week and was constantly adding to my wardrobe--while never paying full price for any item.  I was an expert lurker of sale racks at my favorite stores.  There was nothing better than acquiring an item for 60-70% off the original price.

Now, I need to re-develop the desire to aggressively shop my favorite stores and their sale racks.  I know the deals are out there, but I haven't pursued them for a number of years.

I'll tell you why my current wardrobe has become an issue in tomorrow's post!
