People & Hospitals

The Mother had one of her knees replaced this week.
As a result, The Family and I have spent a lot of time at the hospital.
A. Lot. Of. Time.

When is the last time you have spent
A. Lot. Of. Time.
at a hospital?

You see
All. Kinds. Of. People.

All. Kinds.

My. Goodness!

We felt out of place.

Why?

We shower every day.
We try to wear more, instead of less, clothing.
We don't have visible tattoos.
We don't curse publicly and loudly.
We don't tailgate in the parking lot with family & friends.

My goodness.
We'll be glad to get The Mother home!

NOTE:
Lest you think we are stiff, judgemental people,
please rest assured we are not.
We are some of the most liberal people you could ever meet!

This recent hospital experience has caused us to reminisce
about a time when people dressed up to:

go on a car/train/airplane trips
visit people in the hospital
 keep an appointment
go out to shop
go out to dine

Acknowledgement:
Every person who walks into a hospital has issues, concerns
and decisions to make that are invisible to the people they encounter.

Please know that I am not judging those people on those issues.
I'm not even judging them on their appearance,
contrary to what the above post may say.

I'm simply thinking about a time in the past
(which was my childhood)
where people dressed up in public.

What are your thoughts on this issue?

Do you dress up for the public?

Men's Dress Code Violation

The Husband and I pulled into the Northwest Inn parking lot in Woodward, OK this evening and saw a grown man getting into a truck with another man wearing a tee shirt, basketball shorts like these and workboots like these.

Really?

We went for dinner at J B's Steakhouse, which is a nice restaurant. There was a family of four waiting for a table. Father, mother, son and daughter. The father was wearing the same outfit as the man at the hotel, except his boots looked like this.

Really? Couldn't you dress a little better to take your family to dinner on Friday night?

It wasn't just me thinking these thoughts, as there was another family of four waiting for a table and they were talking about it when he left the waiting area. I heard the daughter from that group say "His son is going to grow up thinking it is okay to dress like that in public."

Casual dress has become way too casual. Let's go back to the time when people put some effort into dressing before going out.

(I won't even tell you about the guy at the steakhouse whose untucked shirt didn't cover the bottom of his belly, which was hanging over his pants.)

What do you think? Do you think a return to more formal public dress is in order?

We are almost home from our trip to New Mexico and I'll have a few vacation stories to share with you during the coming week!

Updated to add:

Dinner at J B's Steakhouse was excellent. We are happy to recommend it for a nice meal and good service.

The Northwest Inn is a good place to stay. It appears to be recently renovated and was clean, with lots of amenities. The free hot breakfast for hotel guests was excellent. We are also happy to recommend this facility!

Note: These are our opinions, we were not compensated for these recommendations.

Heat and Shirtless Men

There are a lot of bad things happening as a result of this heat wave across the USA. Crops are failing, ranchers are having to sell off their cattle because they can't feed or water them, wildfires blaze out of control due to the dry conditions, highway surfaces buckle because of the unreleating heat and many men cease to wear shirts when working outside!

This is a major issue for me, people! It's not like these men (or the ones I've seen all over town) are young, fit and tan, with 6 pack abs. Oh, no. They are middle aged, lumpy (or worse) and pasty white. Particularly disturbing are those whose bellies droop south over their waistbands.

I understand it is a free country and men can go shirtless because society does not think a man without a shirt is obscene, even though a woman without a shirt would be considered so. If you think it is so hot that you cannot wear a tee shirt, I suppose I could grant you a summer time allowance to wear a wife beater shirt, even though I hate those shirts and their name. Still, it would be better to see you in one of those than with your belly hanging out.

My plea is for those men who go shirtless is to cease and desist. Please. My eyes can't take much more of this! Take the pledge! I did.

Heat Pledge:
I hereby do solemnly pledge to keep my middle aged, lumpy, droopy self covered with clothing despite the heat. Amen.
